Key Women of America, Inc.
Key Women of America, Inc. was a dream of its founder. Rev Bertha Nelms Harris. She called on women leaders to join her in a preventative program for children and youth. Women from many walks of life answered this call. These key women inaugurated a program that reaches the needs of children in the home, in school, in institutions and conflict with the law.
Rev. Harris listened with deep concern to radio broadcasts reporting that many children in New York City needed homes. Her investigations revealed that these children were the products of broken homes and incapacitated parents. Some were orphans. They ranged in age from 2 to 17.
Key Women assisted in securing foster and adoptive home for these children throughout New York City. The untiring efforts in behalf of many waiting children have been of inestimable value to our city.
Although the prevention of juvenile delinquency is the primary goal of the Key Women of America, Inc., family services and community needs are also an active part of our program.
